FAQ

Questions, answered plainly.

Everything people usually ask before applying. If yours isn't here, email contact@northdeskjobs.com — a person will reply.

Does it cost anything to apply?
No. Applying is free, and there's nothing to buy at any stage.
How long does the application take?
About 25 minutes in total: a minute to sign up, about five to verify your identity, and about twenty for the interview. You can split it across days — progress is saved.
What do I need?
A government ID or passport, a device with a camera, a stable internet connection, and a bank account in your name. A microphone is optional.
Do I need a CV or previous experience?
No CV. The interview is about how you'd handle real situations in the work, so relevant experience helps — but it isn't required.

Identity verification

How we protect your data
Why do you verify identity?
Our work involves real data and real customers, so we need to know every worker is who they say they are. It also means nobody can apply in your name.
Which documents are accepted?
A valid national ID card, driver's licence or passport. It must be in date and the photo must be clearly visible.
How long does verification take?
Many are confirmed automatically within minutes. Those that need a person are usually reviewed within a day.
What if my verification is rejected?
You'll see the reason — usually a blurry photo or an expired document — and can fix it and resubmit straight away.

The AI interview

What kind of questions are there?
6 scenario questions written for the track you choose — realistic situations from the work, plus a couple about how you organise yourself and communicate.
Can I type instead of speaking?
Yes. Answer by voice or text, whichever you're more comfortable with. Both are scored the same way.
How is it scored?
Each answer is scored on communication, problem solving, role knowledge, and reliability & judgement. 70 or more overall — with no competency below 50 — passes automatically.
What if I don't pass?
Scores from 60 to 69 go to a person for review. Below 60, you can try again after 14 days. You get 2 attempts in total.
Is my accent or appearance part of the score?
No. Only the content of your answers is scored.
Who gives me work?
Northdesk does. Every assignment is created and reviewed by our own team. There's no bidding and no client hunting.
How many hours do I have to work?
There's no minimum. Claim assignments when they suit you. Available work varies week to week, so we can't guarantee a set number of hours.
Can I work from anywhere?
Anywhere in the U.S. — the work is fully remote. Applicants must be U.S. residents aged 18+. You'll need a reliable connection and somewhere you can concentrate.
What happens if a reviewer isn't happy with my work?
Usually they'll request a revision with specific notes, and you can fix and resubmit. You're paid once it's approved.
How much does each assignment pay?
Customer support assignments are priced at $40 per hour of estimated time — a 45-minute batch pays $30.00. The amount and time estimate are shown before you claim it.
When do I get paid?
Approved work is credited to your balance immediately. Each week's balance is paid by direct deposit the following Monday.
Is there a minimum payout?
No. Whatever was approved that week is paid, however small.
Am I an employee?
No — you work as an independent contractor and are responsible for your own taxes. U.S. workers provide an SSN or ITIN during verification for tax reporting.
