How it works

A fair process,
the same for everyone.

Each step unlocks the next only once our servers have confirmed it. Nothing is decided by your browser.

  1. 01

    Verify your identity

    ~5 min

Capture your ID and two short selfie videos with your camera. It takes about five minutes and a reviewer confirms it, usually within a day.

  2. 02

    Take the AI interview

    ~20 min

6 scenario questions for the track you choose, answered by voice or text. Each answer is scored against the same rubric, on our servers.

  3. 03

    Get approved

    Same day

A score of 70 or more activates your account automatically. Borderline results go to a person, not a rejection.

  4. 04

    Start working

    Ongoing

Pick up assignments from our team, submit your work, and get paid for everything that's approved — every Monday.

Is this for you?

Honest about who it suits.

We'd rather you know now than find out after you've verified your identity. Here's who tends to do well — and who probably won't enjoy it.

Good fit

  • You read instructions twice before you start
  • You'd rather be told the rate than negotiate it
  • You're patient with frustrated people and like solving their problem
  • You notice when something doesn't add up — and say so
  • You write clearly, even when it's short

Probably not for you

  • You're looking for a full-time salaried job with benefits
  • You want to set your own rates or find your own clients
  • You'd prefer not to verify your identity
  • You need guaranteed hours every week

Inside the interview

Real situations, not trick questions.

You'll get 6 scenarios drawn from the work itself. There are no right keywords to hit — we look at how you think it through. Every answer is scored on the same four things:

Communication
Is the answer clear, specific and easy to act on?
Problem solving
Do you work the problem, or just describe it?
Role knowledge
Do you understand what good work looks like in this track?
Reliability & judgement
Do you own mistakes and keep promises when it's inconvenient?

Question 2 of 6
Communication

A customer writes in angry because they were charged twice. Write the first reply you would send.

I'm really sorry about the double charge — I'd be frustrated too. I can see both payments on your account, so I've started a refund for the duplicate. You'll see it back on your card within 3–5 business days

Why not a marketplace?

Less hustle. More actual work.

Freelance marketplaces work for some people. If you're tired of writing proposals that never get answered, this is the other way.

Questions

Before you apply

Is it really $40 an hour?
Yes. Every customer support assignment is priced at $40 per hour of its estimated time — a 45-minute batch pays $30.00, a 90-minute chat shift pays $60.00. The amount is shown before you claim it and doesn't change when the work is approved. How many hours you get depends on available work.
Who can apply?
U.S. residents aged 18 or over with a government ID, an SSN or ITIN for tax forms, and a U.S. bank account for direct deposit. No degree or call-center experience required.
Who assigns the work?
Northdesk does. Every assignment is created and reviewed by our own team. There's no bidding against other freelancers and no client chasing.
Why do you verify identity?
Our work involves real data and real customers, so we need to know every worker is who they say they are. Your documents are stored encrypted in a private vault and only reviewers can open them.
What happens if I don't pass the interview?
Scores between 60 and 69 are reviewed by a person. Below that, you can try again after 14 days — you get 2 attempts in total.
How and when do I get paid?
Approved work is added to your balance immediately, and the week's balance is paid out the following Monday by direct deposit. There are no fees and no minimum payout.
